Project overview

Mental Dynamic follows a street music band formed in Shiraz, Iran, during a period when public musical performances faced significant restrictions. The group attracted attention by performing English-language songs in public and by including a female singer—an unusually bold act within the social and cultural environment surrounding them.

Case study

Challenge

The project needed to document a sensitive and unpredictable subject without reducing the musicians to a simple story of public performance. The greater challenge was to capture their relationships, personal struggles and the uncertainty surrounding the future of the band while working within a restrictive environment.

Approach

The band was followed over the course of approximately one year. The documentary moved beyond their street performances and focused on the dynamics between the members, the pressures they experienced and the gradual development of their shared story. This long-term observational approach allowed the music and the relationships within the group to shape the structure of the film.

Outcome

The resulting documentary presents both the public energy of the band's performances and the more intimate uncertainty behind them. A full documentary and an official trailer were completed and published.
